Cosplay is an art form that brings fictional characters into the real world through costume and performance. It combines creativity, aesthetics, imitation, and self-expression, making it a highly individualistic and participatory subculture among today’s youth. Cosplay (costume play) is a form of cultural and artistic expression in which individuals portray fictional characters by wearing specific costumes, makeup, and accessories, and even by imitating their speech and actions. It originated in Japan and later became popular in China, Taiwan, and other Southeast Asian countries, mostly focusing on anime and other "2D" (two-dimensional) culture. In contrast, cosplay in Western countries places more emphasis on creative reinterpretation—such as cross-genre mashups—and personal style.
